Primary Purpose:
Responsible for planning and implementing the instructional program for Adult Education students.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
- Texas teacher certificate preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Bilingual skills desired
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)
- General knowledge of computer systems and software applications
Experience:
- Three years teaching experience
- Experience in adult education desired
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Develop and implement effective lessons with clear learning objectives based on student needs and the Texas Adult Education Content Standards.
- Adjust instruction for students with different interests and abilities, including those with special learning needs.
- Demonstrate understanding of the program’s registration, assessment and placement procedures.
- Understand and use the National Reporting System (NRS) student assessment data to evaluate and improve student performance.
- Create a positive classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Implement evidence-based strategies or best practices in the classroom in order to improve student learning and performance.
- Maintain good student attendance and take appropriate steps to correct attendance problems when necessary.
- Provide timely and accurate student records including goal settings, attendance, portfolios of student work, and student achievements.
- Maintain good student performance on state assessments and other program objectives, and take appropriate steps to correct student performance problems when necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
