Primary Purpose:
To order, prepare, cook and serve food; maintain all kitchen sanitation requirements; complete required documentation; and ensure efficient food service operations for the program in accordance with all applicable guidelines.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or GED certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Basic English speaking/writing skills
- Cooking for large groups
- Highly organized
- Proficient computer and math skills
- Ability to interact with diverse populations
- Ability to work cohesively on an interdisciplinary team
Experience:
- Prior experience in a food service setting
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Model HCDE and Head Start’s mission, vision and values.
- Use the program’s food services software to order food according to the established schedule and maintain an inventory of items.
- Receive food and supply orders and store them according to guidelines; troubleshoot order and delivery issues.
- Prepare, cook, and serve meals daily according to the established menu cycle and standardized recipes; prepare food for program events, as required.
- According to the special diet menu developed by the Nutrition Services Coordinator, adapt meals for children with medically-based or cultural/religious special diets.
- Wash and sanitize dishware, equipment, and food preparation areas and maintain ongoing, regular sanitation and health standards on a daily basis.
- Consistently and accurately maintain all required documentation to ensure compliance with the Child and Adult Care Food Program.
- Maintain ongoing communication with Nutrition Services Coordinators and develop a positive working relationship with food vendors and delivery personnel.
- Participate in committees, workgroups, and trainings as assigned, including food handler and certified food manager training.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
