Primary Purpose:

  • Under the general supervision of an administrator, set up serving stations, serve food and clean serving area. Provide student supervision in the cafeteria.

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • High school diploma or GED certificate
  • Food service certification
  • State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) Educational Aide certificate

 

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Knowledge of health and safety involving food preparation and serving
  • Ability to work with at-risk and special needs students
  • Ability to work within a specialized behavior management system
  • Ability to learn, utilize and control student behavior through verbal de-escalation techniques
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally as well as written expression
  • General knowledge of computer systems and software applications
  • Ability to learn and utilize specialized therapeutic restraint techniques to control student behavior, when appropriate
  • Food services coordination

 

Experience:

  • Experience in food service operations
  • Experience working with students with special needs and students in at-risk situations

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assist in inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment for cafeteria.
  • Assist in keeping administrative records and preparing required reports including lunch and breakfast reports.
  • Prepare and maintain kitchen facilities in order to meet standards imposed by City of Houston, and Houston ISD; Galena Park ISD, Spring ISD, Klein ISD, or Spring Branch ISD.
  • Maintain accurate student lunch rosters
  • Maintain student accounts.
  • Prepare and call-in daily meal counts.
  • Input information in PowerSchool/Houston ISD systems.
  • Assure standards of sanitation are met while handling and serving food.
  • Clean food service area, utensils, dishwasher, and all cafeteria equipment.
  • Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy.
  • Assist students with physical needs and personal care as needed.
  • Assist in managing the behavior of students and crisis intervention, including restraining disruptive or dangerous physical behavior as needed.
  • Participate in in-service training programs, faculty meetings, and special events.
  • Treat all staff with dignity, integrity and respect.
  • Conduct physical student searches.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
