Primary Purpose:
To provide consistent and deliberate teacher coverage; provide students with appropriate learning activities and experience designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth; and enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university with teacher certification preferred;
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Education, the humanities, or in fields focusing upon subjects within the core curriculum; or
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and previous experience in promoting social, educational, or supportive services for school aged children
- Completion of HCDE’s Substitute Orientation program
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Effective and efficient oral and written communication skills
- Available to perform the responsibilities of the position (up to 5 days per week)
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Comply with all state and federal laws, department and campus policies and procedures.
- Maintain and respect confidentiality of student and school personnel information.
- Maintain discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with school and county policies.
- Ensure adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Report all student injuries, accidents, illnesses and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible and in a manner which motivates students to learn and participate.
- Implement lesson plans, while ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner which motivates students to learn and participate.
- Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
- Assist in managing the behavior of students and crisis intervention, including restraining disruptive or dangerous physical behaviors.
- Conduct physical student searches.
- Establish and maintain order in the classroom.
- Maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
- Organize students for effective instruction.
- Cooperate with all school and department personnel.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
