Primary Purpose:
To support the daily financial operations of the Head Start program and perform general adminstrative duties as a member of the program’s administrative team.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or GED certificate, some college preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) using proper English grammar
- Ability to operate a calculator, personal computer and other office equipment as required
- Ability to work with numbers in a rapid and accurate manner
- Ability to organize, prioritize and meet established deadlines
- Ability to maintain well-organized, accurate, auditable records
Experience
- Three years bookkeeping training and/or experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Model HCDE and Head Start’s mission, vision, and values.
- Assist the director with accounting transactions and budget amendments including monitoring expenditures to ensure compliance with the Head Start budget.
- Prepare and process payment authorizations for the Head Start division.
- Monitor financial transactions for accuracy and report issues and concerns to the director as needed.
- Perform data entry including, but not limited to, form requisitions, printing requisitions, and purchase orders.
- Maintain thorough systematic physical and computerized records of financial transactions of the Head Start division.
- Research and resolve all payment issues.
- Prepare budget binder for monthly Policy Council meeting.
- Serve as custodian of petty cash and maintain a Notary Public Commission.
- Serve as backup to the Administrative Assistant.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
