Description

Primary Purpose:

  • To assist the Marketing and Client Engagement division with its goal of marketing/branding, informing and responding to stakeholders to educate the community at large in Spanish on the benefits of partnering with HCDE. Ideal candidate will possess strong oral and written communication skills in both English and Spanish and be able to provide translations/interpretations support departmentwide.

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university; or
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent work experience with certificate of completion in translation studies

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Proficiency in applied technology such as Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) as well as Adobe Suite (preferred)
  • Ability to acquire additional software and/or programming skills as necessary for website content editing and social media content management
  • Native-level fluency in English and Spanish with proficiency in reading, writing and speaking
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to work with a diversity of individuals and handle complex issues
  • Demonstrated proficiency in proofing in Spanish as well as in English
  • Strong management, organizational and decision-making skills
  • Strong interpersonal and teambuilding skills, as well as the ability to build and maintain strong relationships
  • Ability to multi-task projects
  • Create PowerPoint Spanish presentations specific to assigned projects

 

Experience:

  • Minimum five successful years experience in translations/interpretations or related field

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Coordinate interactions with Spanish media and serve as the district's spokesperson for all Spanish news stations and publications.
  • Attend conferences, communications/CE staff meetings, and serve as the district's liaison for translation and interpretation services.
  • Manage and oversee Spanish content on the district's website.
  • Provide translation and interpretation training and resources to district personnel (designated bilingual representatives from each division and campus)
  • Provide written and oral emergency translations (via the district's emergency notification system) to send to parents, students and staff.
  • Use independent judgment in handling difficult situations (over the phone and/or face-to-face) with the HCDE's Spanish-speaking community.
  • Create and produce Spanish versions of district publications (including fliers, calendars, brochures, newsletters, etc.) using desktop publishing software (such as Adobe lnDesign).
  • Translate documents, booklets, handbooks, brochures and fliers used departmentwide and published on the district's website.
  • Establish and oversee professional development for departmentwide bilingual translators and facilitate workshops at designated times throughout the year
  • Provide support by proofreading all publications created by the communications and marketing and client engagement divisions.
  • Provide Spanish interpretation services as needed throughout HCDE.
  • Serve as the department's official interpreter for meetings and various other parent meetings held annually and hosted by the department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
